The Internet is a great place to visit colleges and find out about financial aid. The location, or URL, for most college Web sites consists of the school name followed by .edu. These include Ivy League schools such as Yale (http://www.yale.edu), state universities such as UCLA (http://www.ucla.edu), and state colleges like SUNY (http://www.suny.edu). Community Colleges can often be located through a state's home pages. Try these sites:

The U.S. Department of Education "Think College" site is designed for high school students thinking about college. It includes links to financial aid information and 1,300 college Web sites. There is also a site for people interested in completing their GED (high school General Equivalency Diploma).

Preparing Your Child for College - An overwhelming task - but this source provides parents with a wide variety of extremely helpful information.
WebWare for the SAT - Brought to you by the Stanford Testing Systems, Inc. This site offers nearly 40 skill lessons to beef up math and verbal muscle. Each lesson features several SAT questions.

Variety of different things for teens to do here. Chatroom is not monitored.

Warner Bros. Kids Page For elementary and middle school. Build a free Loonie Toons webpage, send greeting cards, science section, drawing, etc. Has chatrooms that are unmonitored.
Yuckiest Site on the Internet For all ages. Learn all about bugs and other fun things that people usually find yucky

The Internet is a rich resource for helping children with homework. Not only can they get facts on subjects from apples to zebras, but they can also get advice from online help desks, tutors, and teachers. CTW Online - Sesame Street rules. It always has, and it always will if the folks at Children's Television Workshop keep producing outstanding entertainment and educational material like CTW Online. From online dot-to-dot drawings and printable coloring pages, to rainy day activities and fun recipes for the family, this site has it all. On the serious side, you will find a wealth of articles on education, child development, health and safety, and more. And believe it or not, the site's creators manage to keep the advertising and self- promoting to a minimum. So visit the official online home of Sesame Street and reintroduce yourself and your students to some old friends.

It's a site that's packed with information for not only parents, but also students and teachers. Topics are arranged under the headings of Family Matters, Travel, Activities, Computing, Education, Family ties and Food. Some of the customized features are available through subscription only.
Grief Recovery On Line - For middle school through adult. Wonderful site for learning to cope with grief. Has chat rooms and they are monitored by adults.

Moms Online http://www.momsonline.com - I love interactive technology that works with little fuss and no downloading of software. The online chat area here fulfills my basic requests. It's easy to get into and once in the chat area, I was greeted by all participants and asked a number of questions to involve me in the discussion at hand. A friendly bunch here at Mom's Online! A popular feature is the Hot Tips Categories. Tips from bathtime, the first two weeks after birth, diapering, getting organized, reading to your child to toilet training and travelling are found here. Other areas include Mom of the Week and a very intriguing trivia game called Daily Sphinx, where the competition is fierce and monthly prizes are awarded.
